The marathon route of 4,820 miles over 33 days starts against the wind as crews travel up the Gold Coast before crossing the Equator. Contending with tropical temperatures and the Doldrums this stretch of the journey poses real challenges to all on board.

The South China Sea brings the advantage of north east monsoon winds which will enable crews to hoist the spinnakers and sail at speed towards Singapore. A vibrant and passionate county, which despite it's small size hosts the busiest port in the world, welcomes The Clipper Race to its brand new and prestigious Marina at Keppel Bay.

Race 8 takes the crews from light winds in the tropical heat to the colder, head-on winds as the route heads north. The weather rallies the sea and the crew reach for their warmer clothing, looking out for snow as they journey east of Taiwan to the East China Sea before arriving at the Olympic sailing city of Qingdao.
