EASTERN AUSTRALIA > SINGAPORE > QINGDAO, CHINA

No. Races: 2
Temperature: 0°C - 30°C
Distance: 7,400 miles
Est. Arr: December 2013 - February 2014
Duration: Around 53 days

Over 53 days, the crews take on this marathon leg, a tricky routing challenge through Papua New Guinea and Indonesia before arriving in Singapore. The start is tough, sailing into prevailing winds up the Gold coast and past the stunning Whitsunday Islands. After the wildness of the Northern Territories, the Doldrums and tropical temperatures make a reappearance in the second section.

On entering the South China Sea, the crews hoist spinnakers and dart towards the shores of Asia. A race of extremes is next, tropical heat soon turns colder and headwinds batter boats. You may have even seen snow by the time you reach the Olympic sailing city of Qingdao where a heroic arrival awaits. Swarms of autograph hunters will be desperate to add signatures to their books.
