Leg four is host to races five and six. For the first race of 3,110 miles, crews once more battle the Roaring Forties, travelling through Cape Leeuwin at the south easterly tip of Australia before entering the Pacific for the first time to head north towards New Zealand. An extremely warm welcome to New Zealand will be provided by the Maoris who will be celebrating the Clipper race fleet's first ever visit.

Leaving behind the ‘land of the long white cloud' race 6 begins. The 8 days and 1,150 miles ahead are challenging and demand a different kind of endurance from the crews. No longer in quiet isolation, the crews have to navigate the busy shipping lanes between Australia and New Zealand with sea and surf conditions that attract so many to the coast being unrelenting on crew and kit.
